Location

 

Arques is a beautiful village in Aude, Languedoc Roussillon, with its own bakery. Further amenities are available in Couiza, a ten-minute drive away. The nearest airport is at Carcassonne, which is under an hour away. You can also fly to Perpignan, Toulouse or Beziers.

Carcassonne

The famous medieval fortified city of Carcassonne, which was made a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997, is under an hour away.

 

Spend a day browsing the boutique shops or marvelling at the beautiful architecture which is all around you.

Limoux

Limoux is a pretty town 20 minutes from Arques. It is famous for its carnival which goes on for three months, from January until Mardi Gras.

 

It is also the home of Blanquette, the original sparkling French wine.

Outdoor activities

Canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting are available on the River Aude, just 10 minutes from Arques. In the pretty town of Rennes-les-Bains you can enjoy the natural hot spring waters.

 

For those of you who prefer your water a little saltier, the Mediterranean beaches are just over an hour away in the Narbonne area.

 

Horse riding is available in the village for everyone from beginners through to experienced riders. We have six bikes available for guests' use.

The Cathar Trail

The donjon at Arques, a fine example of medieval architecture, is on the Cathar Trail and we are only 15 minutes from Rennes-le-Chateau.

 

Numerous other Cathar castles are in this area rich in fascinating history.
